Black, yellow, white and gray! This collage came together because I wanted to combine these four colors. I decided to investigate the meaning of these colors in art and why I was emotionally drawn to this composition. Black was one of the first colors used in art. Prehistoric artists used black charcoal and iron minerals to create a black pigment that they then used to paint on cave walls. Gray is a color that is often associated with loss or depression. White depicts faith, purity and simplicity.
Yellow has been making appearances in my work lately. Van Gogh is known for using multiple vibrant colors in his art, but he used yellow most of all. Despite being the color most associated with optimism and happiness, yellow is not a very popular color. In a 2000 survey, only six percent of respondents said their favorite color is yellow.
